Parliament has passed the Retirement and Re-employment Act. This means that from Janury 2012, employers are required by law to offer employees who turn 62 an option to work for another 3 years, if they are keen. However, employers have the flexibility to offer workers differen jobs and employment terms, provided these are reasonable.
To qualify for re-employmnt, workers must be medically fit and have at least satisfactory work performance. The onus will be on the emploer to prove that a worker is not eligible for re-employment.
